Hair Clip Kindness

The little girl gave full attention to doing her best artwork for the tall cowboy. Every detail of her painting mattered for this kind stranger who came from far away to help build houses for her people. Kindness is a considerate act that touches another person’s heart. Sometimes it returns to the person who extends it, as you’ll see in the video below.

The Treasure:
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted … (Ephesians 4:32)
“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see”
(Christian Nestell Bovel)

I have a story to tell today—it’s a story about kindness. The other day when my grandson came to change a lightbulb for me, he handed me his cowboy hat he had bought at Hatman Jack’s in Wichita, Kansas. I looked closer at the hat and I said, “Grandbro. What’s with this hairclip in the trim of your hat?” And he told me about a mission trip to Guatemala to build houses, and how a little girl asked if she could paint his fingernails bright green. As he sat on the playground among all the children and she painted his fingernails, she was so delighted that when she finished, she took a hair clip out of her hair and handed it to him. She wanted him to put it in his hair, but he put it on his hat instead … and wears it to this day. Such beautiful language of kindness that’s unspoken. We can show kindness without words as well, by spending time together, by the look in our eyes, maybe by a gift, maybe just by sharing an experience. And it goes a long way. We can change a life, and we can certainly have our own lives be changed as well by experiencing the universal language of kindness.
